Reflections on the “I’ll Be Happy When” Event: Design, Mindset, and Wellbeing
Attending the “I’ll Be Happy When” event, hosted by DesignByThem, offered an inspiring exploration into the intersection of design, mindset, and wellbeing. The evening’s talks delved into how we define happiness, particularly in a profession like architecture, where we often strive for perfection and chase the next achievement.
Speakers shared personal reflections on embracing the present, a concept that resonated deeply with architectural practice. The event reminded us to find joy not just in the end result, but in every step of the design process.
The beautifully curated venue fostered meaningful conversations about balancing professional goals with personal wellbeing. It left us reflecting on how, as architects, we can create spaces that foster happiness and redefine success to include joy throughout the journey.
This event was a refreshing reminder of the importance of mindfulness and balance, both in our work and the environments we create.
The speakers at the event included William Smart from Smart Design Studio, Evi O from Evi-O Studio, Yasmine Ghoniem from YSG Studio who shared their unique perspectives on productivity, creativity, and happiness.
Alongside showcasing their individual work, the discussion and Q&A led by Sarah Gibson and Nicholas Karlovasitis from Gibson Karlo sparked introspective, and humorously candid conversations about the highs and lows, as well as the similarities and differences of experiences within their careers.
This event seeked to open a dialogue between creatives. All of the ticket proceeds were donated to the Back Dog Institute to support mental health research and action.
