M+M Architects recently completed a stunning transformation of a Balmain Victorian Terrace House. This skillfully blends contemporary with rich historic charm.
The project focused on enhancing both functionality and aesthetic appeal throughout the residence.
Upstairs, the architects redesigned the layout to integrate the living, dining, and kitchen areas into a spacious open-plan setup. This upper level now features an expanded balcony. This providing ample space for enjoying sunlight and hosting gatherings with friends and family.
In the downstairs areas, M+M Architects strategically adjusted to maximize space. They relocated the bathroom and main bedroom, freeing up valuable square footage. This change enabled them to convert the original dining area into a cozy study nook. Additionally, they moved the main staircase strategically to enhance the home’s flow and facilitate the expansion of the lower level.
The lower ground floor underwent a significant transformation, now serving as a versatile space that can function as a cinema room or guest bedroom. It includes a convenient bar area for entertaining guests. They added practicality by including a new laundry and bathroom in this area.
Connecting seamlessly to the lower ground floor is a level rear courtyard, thoughtfully designed for relaxation and outdoor dining. Roller door access to the rear lane not only simplifies parking but also enhances the convenience of city living.
Throughout the renovation process, M+M Architects remained committed to preserving the integrity of the Victorian-era architecture while introducing modern elements that enhance the home’s livability and aesthetic appeal. This results in a harmonious blend. The old-world charm and contemporary style has been combined to optimise each space for comfort, functionality, and timeless elegance.
