MM Architects is proud to share that David McCrae has been nominated for re-election as as Chapter Councillor of the NSW Chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects for the 2025–26 term, following his service in 2023–24. He is also up for election as Councillor for the National Council of the AIA.
During his previous term, David has championed a stronger, more inclusive and more visible role for architects across practice, policy and community. He has supported increased recognition and representation within the profession, including championing the Florence Mary Taylor Prize for recently registered women architects, advocating for Indigenous representation on all Chapter and National Councils, and backing initiatives that elevate the role of architects within the broader industry.
David has also actively supported the recognition of architecture beyond the profession itself, including the #NameTheArchitect campaign, the incorporation of the Australian Architecture Association into AIA NSW, the strengthening of key network groups representing sole and small practitioners, and the ongoing call for an Australian Architecture Museum.
Looking ahead, David is focused on ensuring architects remain central to shaping Australia’s built environment. A key priority for the coming term will be working closely with government on significant reforms impacting the profession and the public, including the Design and Building Practitioners Act (DBPA), the Building Bill, the National Construction Code (NCC) and national housing policy. These reforms will shape both design and delivery outcomes across the country.
With experience spanning small practices through to large multinational firms, and now as the director of his own boutique studio, David brings a valuable, full-spectrum perspective. His work across private, corporate and government projects positions him strongly to represent the diversity of architectural practice in NSW.
